First Day of Fall - Home Preparation for Winter

Today is the first day of fall, which means you need to start prepping your house for winter. Here are a few things you can do to prevent having home repairs in the spring.
Clean out your gutters - Make sure that you clear your gutters of debris. Clogged gutters could lead to roof or fascia damage.
HVAC system check - Have your HVAC system looked over in the fall so that you are prepared for the switch over to heat. The technician will verify that your system is clean and in good repair.
Switch your fans - This is something we all forget to do. When you switch to heat, make sure to have your fans running clockwise to push the heat down from the ceiling.
Clean out your fireplace - Have a professional come by and check the damper and clean your chimney. You can clean out the ash and wood from the fireplace.
Check your roof - Scan your roof and look for damaged or missing shingles. If you need roof repairs call a professional for help.
Check windows and doors - Check for drafts and caulk any windows or doors that need it.
Store air conditioners - If you have window units, take them out of the window and store them away until spring.
I hope you find these tips helpful and your house makes it through another winter. If you do have any issues after the winter and you need home repairs, feel free to contact us.
